Farm History

Tri-Dale Farm dates back to 1834. Hiram Deats began acquiring small areas of land that eventually became the Samuel C. Stevenson Farm.

August and Caroline Knispel, on July 14, 1928 purchased the property.

It was named due to the three valleys or "dales" that converge on the property.

In 1962, the passing of the Senior August Knispel left the farm to his son, August W.  He has farmed it for over 40 years.

Tri-Dale Farm is best known for its dairy production and at its peak produced over 1 ton of milk per day.  Due to a decline in milk prices August was forced to sell the milking herd in 1998.  The farm, however, continued to raise replacement heifers until just a few years ago.

Tri-Dale Farm  was added to  the New Jersey Farmland Preservation Program in 1989.

In addition, during his career farming August also served as township mayor for many terms and was a member of numerous committees.

Presently, August's great-nephew, Kevin, and his wife, Christina, are the next generation to continue with the Knispel tradition by farming hay and raising registered Fainting Goats.
